Getting to Net-Zero: a marathon, not a sprint

In order to meet the goal of net-zero emissions by the end of the century, action needs to happen now. We won’t meet the long-term ambition without covering off the first milestones.

The EU aims to be climate-neutral by 2050 – meaning an economy with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Progress on the EU Green Deal initiatives will contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and ultimately accelerate the achievement of the Paris Agreement to reach net-zero emissions and keep global warming to within 1.5 degrees of pre-industrial levels.

Together, the EU Green Deal, the SDGs, and the Paris Agreement provide a roadmap and holistic pathway towards the final net-zero goal and a more sustainable future. Everything we do now will get us closer to the final goal.
